Brother Columba wanted to serve the lepers on Malakai with this Belgium missionary priest.  Although he never had the opportunity, in 1895, he requested permission to work at a leprosarium in New Orleans: this was not granted.

Mrs. Thomas Rath was cured through Brother Columba from cystitis and pyelonephritis when “the patient’s life was despaired of.” She wrote to Brother Columba several times in the early 1920’s
